Bobby Bowden Announces Retirement
The regular season is barely over, there are some major coaching changes already shaping the college football landscape. The latest bit of news comes out of Florida State, where it appears that longtime coach Bobby Bowden is ready to step down from his position of head coach.
According to ESPN.com the announcement will be made on Tuesday. Bowden and coach in waiting Jimbo Fisher met with school officials earlier today to discuss the future of the legendary coach and the storied program. It was thought Bowden would be asked to accept a reduced roll as head coach in exchange for being allowed to remain on staff for another year.
Bowden leaves college football after 34 years of service. He is the second winningest coach of all time with 388 wins. While this is the right move for the Florida State Seminoles, it is a sad day for college football because it is losing one of the all time great coaches, and Bobby Bowden will be missed by all of us here at Walker Sports.

Daily Erin Andrews: Check out Tiger's Mistress
Okay so by now you have all heard about this whole Tiger Wood's accident and other craziness. You'd have to be living under a rock to not know about Tiger's 2 am joy ride. While no one knows the exact story behind what is going on, we do know that there are some issues between Tiger and his wife Elgin.
Well the one prevalent rumor is Tiger has had some sort of an affair, many think his affair was with this woman, Rachel Uchitel. While that has not been proven, why not take a look at what she looks like. Enjoy.

College Coaching Rumors: Charlie Weis Fired
According to the New York Daily News, Notre Dame has decided to fire head coach Charlie Weis. School athletic director Jack Swarbrick has decided to make a change after Weis finished the season with a 6-6 record and four straight losses to Navy, Pitt, Connecticut and Stanford.
In all honesty this move comes as no surprise to anyone. Much like Virginia's Al Groh Weis has been the walking dead for the past four month. Weis was at Notre Dame for the past five years and compiled a 35-27 record.
In other Notre Dame news the players are holding a private team only meeting to decide if they will play in a bowl game this season. Despite a horrible 6-6 record the Domers are bowl eligible.

College Football Pick'em Week 13 Recap
I cannot believe we are through week 13 of the college football season, but then again judging by some of my recent picks in the College Football Pick'em pool, I should not be too surprised. Once, I was the hottest thing going, and now I seem to have fallen on hard times. See my results from this week's edition of Walker Sports College Football Pick'em
Oklahoma 27 def. Oklahoma State 0: It's amazing that Oklahoma State manages to fail completely when put on a big stage. No matter what this team attempts to do, they seem to choke on the big stage. The 10 point spread was nothing for Bob Stoops and company. They rolled over the Oklahoma State Cowboys with ease. Covering the spread was easy, and despite it being a blowout the Sooners still managed to avoid the over. Damn you Bob Stoops.
BYU 26 def. Utah 23: Well nothing went well for me with this pick. BYU was a 7.5 point underdog and they come out and win outright. Great job by the Cougars. Congratulations to all of them. Too bad the BYU win doesn't help my gambling debts. I wonder if Obama can make a stimulus package to save me?
South Carolina 34 vs. Clemson 17: Finally, some redemption this week. The South Carolina Gamecocks made this weekend bearable. Clemson entered the game on a hot streak and they had a Heisman hopeful in their backfield. That's why the Tigers were favored by 3 points. However, the Ole Ball Coach, Steve Spurrier had one last ace up his sleeve. Big rivalry game and the Gamecocks come through pull the upset, win outright and save my ass for the weekend. Thank you Steve Spurrier, that's something I never thought I'd say.

Walker Sports College Football Top 25
1)Florida Gators: The journey is almost complete, just beat Bama.
2)Texas Longhorns: Colt McCoy and the Longhorns put on a special show on Thursday night.
3)Boise State Broncos: It looks like another trip to the Fiesta Bowl for the Broncos. To keep them out of the BCS would be a travesty.
4)Alabama Crimson Tide: Yeah, they are ranked a tad low in this poll but that's because they have a date with Florida and a win changes everything.
5)TCU Horn Frogs: The Horn Frogs may really be the best team in the country. Too bad they will most likely play the loser of the SEC Championship game.
6)Cincinnati Bearcats: Pitt losing last week may be the worse thing for the Bearcats. I just don't like Brian Kelly's defense. Good teams don't give up 30+ points on the regular.
7)Ohio State Buckeyes: The Buckeyes may actually have a shot at wining a Bowl game this year.
8)Oregon Ducks: Man what an entertaining team to watch this season.
9)Penn State: Is Joe Pa going to back door his way into a BCS game? That would be crazy.
10)Iowa Hawkeyes: Seriously, who let these guys climb back into the top 10? I want answers.
11)BYU Cougars: Great win in the Holy War this past week. The Mountain West is legit.
12)Houston Cougars: I think that Houston gets this ranking simply because they are a fun team to watch. Talk about offensive firepower.
13)Virginia Tech Hokies: Interesting how they are the highest ranked team in the ACC, and not even playing for the conference title. Also great job of ending the Al Groh error at UVA.
14)Oregon State Beavers:Where did these guys come from?
15)Pitt Panthers: Despite dropping a close one in the Backyard Brawl last weekend, Pitt can climb back into the spotlight next weekend by knocking off Cincinnati.
16)Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets: They played a great game against Georgia except the horrible play calling at the end. Option teams should not pass 4 times in a row in the fourth quarter.
17)Clemson Tigers: It's November that means Clemson goes into hiding.
18)USC Trojans: No class last week in the final moments of the UCLA game. I'll admit it, I hate the Trojans.
20)LSU Tigers: At least Les Miles didn't blow the clock management this week.
21)Cal Bears: They are kind of like the little engine that could, but in the end, this season will be considered a lost.
22)Nebraska Cornhuskers: Solid year from the Cornhuskers and upsetting Texas in the Big 12 Championship will shoot this team up the rankings for sure.
23)Utah Utes: Tough lost to BYU, but remaining ranked all season proves that Utah is becoming a legitimate program. Now they need to schedule higher profile out of conference games.
24)West Virginia Moutaineers: Welcome to the top 25 better late than never.
25)Oklahoma State Cowboys: What happened to this team? Maybe my man Mike Gundy is not who I thought he was.

Virginia Fires Al Groh
According to a report coming from the University of Virginia's website, the school has come to terms to dismiss head coach Al Groh. This comes after a 42-13 beating from instate rival Virginia Tech on Saturday, and concludes a 3-9 season, a low point for the program. Al Groh had two years remaining on his contract. The reported buyout is worth 4.3 million dollars.
Groh, a Virginia alum who became the Cavaliers' coach in 2001, had a 59-53 record. The Cavaliers finished with a losing record in three of Groh's final four seasons. Groh's dismissal should come as no surprise to anyone familiar with the Virginia football program. There have been rumors circling the program of Chris Peter of Boise State, and former Auburn coach Tommy Tuberville coming in to coach next season.
The school says they will make an official announcement on Monday or Tuesday.

College Football Pick'em Week 13
Happy Thanksgiving everyone. I hope all you all are enjoying some much needed time with family and friends, and getting some welcome rest. If you're looking for something to do over the holiday weekend, join the Walker Sports crew in Charlottesville for the Recipe for Disaster courtesy of Buddhist Biker Bar. Now that we have that out of the way, let's talk some college football. It's the real rivalry week and while the spreads may be big, but they are rivalry games, so you never know what may happen.
Oklahoma vs. Oklahoma State: Traditionally this is one of my favorite games to watch. The Cowboys have made a habit of ruining the Oklahoma Sooners season. This year, neither team has anything to play for other than pride. The Oklahoma Sooners season was ruined due to injuries, and the Cowboys never got their season off the ground.
Saturday is all about pride, that being said, I am surprised by the 10 point spread that is posted to this game. Oklahoma State has had a disappointing season, but they are a talented team. The Oklahoma Sooners are simply decimated by injuries, and they have trouble keeping up with anyone offensively as a result. If the Cowboys can push the tempo, and put points on the board, I don't see any reason why they cannot cover the 10 point spread.
Winner: Oklahoma State pulls the upsets and covers the spread. Take the over just in case.
Utah vs. BYU: Who would have thought the focus of the college football world would leave Oklahoma and Texas and shift to Utah? Both the Utes and the Cougars have been fighting for football respect on the national scene. Saturday's game is all about state pride. This game has brought us some memorable moments. It also happens to be one of the only rivalry games this season to feature two teams within the top 25.
BYU is a 7.5 point underdog in this game, and that is not surprising. Utah is playing some great football, and if it were not for TCU stealing all the glory, people would reconize that fact.
Winner: Utah wins the game and covers the spread.
South Carolina vs. Clemson: It's hard to believe the Clemson Tigers have clawed their way onto the national scene, but that's exactly what they have done thanks to C.J. Spiller. The Tigers are locked in for a game against Georgia Tech for the ACC Championship. If they come through that, Clemson can play in a BCS game. It's kind of hard to believe this team has experienced that level of success this season.
The South Carolina Gamecocks have had an up and down season, but for the most part many would say it was another lackluster campaign. In the end Steve Spurrier has proven to not be the coach he once was. That being said, 'the Ole Ball Coach' has put together some exciting games this year, including taking Florida to the limit.
The spread favors Clemson by 3 points, but don't let that fool you.
Winner: South Carolina pulls the upset and wins outright and covers the spread.

College Coaching Rumors: Al Groh Fired, Chris Peterson Hired
With the end of the college football season just around the corner, it means it is time for the coaching carousel to begin. Most people know and understand that Al Groh will be released from his contract at the end of the 2009 football season. The UVA head coach has completely underachieved.
However, a new wrinkle enters the equation today as Mac McDonald, former UVA play-by-play man, announced on his radio show that the Virginia Cavaliers have agreed to a deal with Chris Peterson. Yes, the Chris Peterson head coach of the Boise State Broncos. While none of this can be confirmed, it is extremely interesting and if it proves to be true, hiring Peterson could be the move that the Virginia Cavaliers need to put their football program back on track.

Jimmy Clausen Punched By Fan
This has been a horrible season for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Oddly enough Irish quarterback Jimmy Clausen has actually put together a solid season. However, 6-5 is still unacceptable for all Notre Dame fans, and they are fighting mad about it.
According to multiple reports and witnesses, Notre Dame quarterback Jimmy Clausen was punched in the face by a fan on Saturday night. According to reports from the Chicago Tribune Clausen was left with a black eye from the incident.
Employees from CJ's Pub confirm that Jimmy Clausen was at the bar with friends and family, and after closing he was approached and attacked by a fan. South Bend police say they have no reports filed under Clausen's name.
Seriously?! Come on Notre Dame fans, be classier than that. Yes this season has been a waste, yes your coach is going to be fired, yes you have underachieved yet again. But punching your starting qb (and best player) in the face after he loses a game in double OT? Way to stay classy Domer nation.
No wonder Notre Dame football is in the tank, the fans don't deserve a quality program with fans like that.

College Football Pick'em Week 12 Recap
Thanks to a little bit of trickery, we actually ended up with a good week in this week's College Football Pick'em. Michigan looked bad, but they covered for a big play. The complete lack of defense in the PAC 10 also helped out as well. All in all, it was a decent week for Walker Sports College Football Pick'em.
Ohio State 21 vs. Michigan 10: Obviously the season was a complete lost for the Michigan Wolverines. But gambling will make you look at things in a different light. For us degenerate gamblers, this season was not a complete wash. The spread on "The Big Game" was 12 points, and somehow the Wolverines held on keep the Buckeyes within that margin. Well done Michigan, now remember how to actually win games outright.
Oregon 44 vs. Arizona 41: This game was a shoot out, and a fun one to watch. The good thing about PAC 10 football there is always plenty of offense to go around. Arizona was an average team entering this game and as a result they were a 6 point dog. Nonetheless the Wildcats gave the Oregon Ducks held. We missed out on this one since Oregon failed to cover the spread. However, I was dead on when I told you to take the over there was plenty of offense to go around.
Cal 34 vs. Stanford 28: There's no other way to put this other than I blew it. Cal had a lot more in the tank than I anticipated. I guess some programs still get hyped up for rivalry week. The Bears held strong and won outright and blew away the 7.5 spread.
Ole Miss 25 vs. LSU 23: This game was another surprise. Ole Miss showed a lot of heart and kept everything close. This game will be remembered for the Les Miles call and failing to get the field goal unit onto the field. From a gambling perspective, that field goal would have had no affect on the 4 point spread.

Walker Sports College Football Top 25
Another week is in the books, and once again the the top of the Walker Sports College Football Poll remains in tack, but things are getting tight, and with the conference championships just around the corner you can be sure there will be some shake ups. Nonetheless, let's take a look at how the top 25 shakes out this week.
1)Florida Gators: The Gators are trucking along. It's always nice when you beat up FIU, this weekend they have a Florida State team that is on it's last weeks. Just don't screw up.
2)Texas Longhorns: Colt McCoy will be your Heisman winner, and what better way to cap off a memorable senior season than making a trip to the BCS Championship.
3)Boise State Broncos:Still strong still good. Get this team in the Mountain West Conference and make the Mountain West a BCS conference.
4)Alabama Crimson Tide: The entire season hinges on the SEC Championship game in two weeks. Will the Tide fall in consecutiveyears?
5)TCU Horn Frogs:TCU needs Boise and Boise needs TCU. Make the Mountain West a power conference.
6)Cincinnati Bearcats:Misson Almost accomplished, the Bearcats have to remain focused and finish what they started.
7)Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets:They earned a date with Clemson in the ACC Championship, time to do work.
8)Pitt Panthers:It's going to be a great game when the Panthers tangle with the Bearcats.
9)Ohio State Buckeyes:For the eighth time in nine years, the Buvckeyes knocked off Michigan. Can't wait to watch any PAC 10 team destroy them in the Rose Bowl.
10)Oregon Ducks: Another win keeps them in the drivers seat for the PAC 10.
11)Penn State: It was a solid year for Joe Pa, in the end they just fell a little short.
12)Oklahoma State Cowboys: Despite early setbacks, it was a good season. Now knock off the Sooners and finish up.
13)Iowa Hawkeyes: I have to say the Hawkeyes were a surprise for me this season, but they were incredibly boring to watch.
14)Houston Cougars: Fun to watch, but you have to play some defense if you want to be a contender.
15)BYU Cougars: Imagine how entertaining it would be to watch these guys Boise State and TCU in the same conference.
16)Clemson Tigers: It was an ugly season, but the Tigers are a game away from reaching a BCS game.
17)Virginia Tech Hokies: Destroy Virginia and put an end to the Al Groh era in Charlottesville.
18)Oregon Sate: Still a factor in the PAC 10. Beat Oregon and pay them back for what happened last season.
20)Utah Utes: Another team looking for some company in the Mountain West, don't you see how good this conference could be?
21)USC Trojans: Well at least we won't have to watch them in the Rose Bowl.
22)Mississippi Rebels: Great great win for the Rebels. Les Miles has to kicking himself in the ass.
23)Cal Bears: A lost season is suddenly put back back in place with a win over Stanford.
24)Nebraska Cornhuskers: Who would have thought the Cornhuskers could earn their way into the Big 12 Championship game? An upset victory over Texas would go down as one of the all time greats.
25)LSU Tigers: Les Miles just had a $10 million clock management mistake. That has to hurt.

NFL Week 11 Predictions
Alright since last week's NFL picks saved my arse, I figured why not ride the wave, and see what I can come up with this week. So welcome to the second edition of Walker Sports NFL picks this is for week 11.
Washington Redskins vs. Dallas Cowboys -11: There is no doubt that this is my favorite rivalry in the NFL, and the fact that Walker Sports is based out of Washington DC just makes it better. The Washington Redskins have been on one crazy ride this season that has seen coaching rumors, new players and it has been a three ring circus. However, last week the Skins appeared to put it all together against Denver.
On the other side of the ball, the Dallas Cowboys were the hottest team in football till they ran into the Green Bay Packers last weekend. After a sloppy performance the typical rumors are swirling around the Cowboys and their inability to perform late in the season.
Despite a win last week, the Skins are horrible. They still have a shaky offensive line and a backup running back. Despite all of that the nature of this rivalry keeps things close. If the Cowboys are 1-15 they will get that one win against the Skins and vice-versa. For that reason I don't like the Cowboys odds to cover this 11 point spread.
Winner: Cowboys win the game but Washington covers the spread.
Indianapolis Colts vs. Baltimore Ravens -even: The Colts have been on a tear this season. Peyton Manning is without a doubt the MVP of the league as of right now. Indianapolis has no running game to speak of and that puts all the pressure on Peyton to make plays. Another issue the Colts are facing are injuries on their defense. The Colts have lost three starters for the season, and while they were able to cover that last week, Tom Brady and the Patriots were still able to score nearly at will.
The Ravens were one kicker away from being a top ranked team in the NFL. However, now they are hungry and they need to win to keep pace for the AFC Wild Card. The Ravens defense is not what it used to be, but they are still a dangerous group. Especially if they can face a team that is as one dimensional as the Colts.
This is a pick'em game with the spread set even. I like the Ravens to come through and pull the upset thanks to their new kicker.
Winner: Baltimore Ravens.
Chicago Bears vs. Philadelphia Eagles - 3: The Philadelphia Eagles are have lost Brian Westbrook for the season. Somehow I feel like we say this every year. What makes this year different, is the Eagles have some other options at the running back position. Hell, for what it's worth the Eagles have plenty of options in almost every position on the offense. They are an extremely talented and explosive team.
The Chicago Bears put together a horrible performance last week when Jay Cutler tossed five interceptions. Despite Cutler's lackluster performance, the Bears had a chance to win the game as the clock wound down. The key for the Bears on Sunday will be ball control. They need to run Matt Forte and keep the ball out of the hands of the Eagles high octane offense.
The spread is set at 3 points favoring Philadelphia. The Bears were able to overcome turnovers last week to keep pace. This weekend, the Eagles will capitalize on all mistakes and score.
Winner: Philadelphia Eagles
Tennessee Titans vs. Houston Texans -4.5: The Houston Texans are on Monday night football. Matt Schaub has put on a quiet clinic all season. You don't have to believe me just look at the fantasy numbers, Schaub is easily a top five performer. Luckily for the Texans, Schaub's fantasy numbers have translated into wins on the field.
The Tennessee Titians have quietly put their season back together, all though it is must likely too little too late. Perhaps the most surprising part is the revolution has been led by Vince Young. However, Young is not alone Chris Johnson has turned it on in the last few weeks, and he has been nearly unstoppable. Get him in the open field and he will score.
Winner: The Texans are a 4.5 point favorite, they have the fire power to cover that spread. However, take the over to cover yourself.

RIP Uga VII
In a bit of sad news coming from between the hedges in Georgia; Uga VII, the University of Georgia's beloved mascot has passed away due to heart-related issues according to his owners.
Uga VII made his first start as the Georgia mascot just two seasons ago when he replaced Uga VI. Loran's Best as he was always known, was said to have been a good dog who was oblivious to the crowd noise. He could be seen roaming the sidelines in his red Georgia sweater and watching his favorite team.
According to Georgia's athletic department, there will be no dog at the game on Saturday, and a wreth will be placed on Uga VII's dog house in remembrance.
"He was 10-3 last year which is not bad for a freshman," said Seiler. "Uga VII was not as active or mischievous as his father but more distinguished. He realized his role when he put his shirt on. He was well-behaved and always appreciated the significance of his role."
-Sonny Seiler Uga VII's owner.
Uga VII will be missed, as he was taken fro us far too soon.

Al Groh Fired- Who Replaces Him?
The 2009 football season has been a disaster for the Virginia Cavaliers. For that matter the majority of the Al Groh era in Charlottesville has been a train wreck. As a result it is unlikely that Al Groh will retain his job during the off season. That's right, Al Groh will be fired.
Now assuming that Groh is fired, Virginia needs a plan to rebuild. The obvious question then becomes, who will replace Al Groh? Let's take a look at the short list of obvious candidates
Mike London: London may be the most obvious choice to replace Al Groh. Judging from all indications he may also be the leading candidate to get the head coaching job going into the off season. Mike London spent six season at UVA where he became the defensive coordinator and molded five NFL draft picks. He's a proven winner after taking Richmond to a FCB Championship in his first season as head coach. London is generally an unknown. He also has not be tested on his recruiting capabilities.
Brian Kelly: The Cincinnati Bearcats head coach is an obvious choice. However, he may have coached his way right out of this competition. Kelly's services will be in high demand this offseason, and UVA may shy away from the bidding competition. The guy is a winner. He built a program out of UC when no one thought it was possible. He knows how to recruit and everyone loves him. He's too good and too qualified to be UVA's head coach. UVA cannot compete with the likes of Notre Dame. They will get outbid for Brian Kelly's services.
Ron Prince: He is back for his second tour of duty on the UVA coaching staff. While out at Kansas State Prince developed Josh Freeman and he kept that program afloat. Ron Prince is a good recruiter and a pretty good head coach. He was fired prematurely at Kansas State. Judging from his development of Josh Freeman and the one time success of the Virginia offense, Prince can
Jim Grobe: This name may be the most surprising of all of them. Jim Grobe built the Wake Forest football program from scratch. At it's peak, Wake Forest reach a BCS game, which is a feat that no one ever thought would be possible. Grobe's success at Wake Forest is also the reason he would not leave Winston Salem. Jim Grobe can go .500 for the next 8 years and he will still be welcomed in with open arms on the Wake Forest campus. For that reason he has no desire to leave Winston Salem.
Danny Rocco: You probably don't know who Danny Rocco is, but you should. He is the head coach of the Liberty Flames in Lynchburg Virginia. In three years Rocco has taken a 1-10 program and turned them into a contender. He is a brash young coach who runs a dynamic offense and he is not afraid to mix things up. He has some past experience on the UVA staff. There is no doubt that Danny Rocco is on his way up the coaching ladder, but making this jump right away may be too much too soon.
The UVA football program will be at a crossroads this off season. There is no way Al Groh retains his job after this season. If UVA wants to put their program back on track they will need to hire a great head coach.
