NBA Suspends Gilbert Arenas

In a move that is not shocking to anyone, word has come from the NBA office that Washington Wizards point guard Gilbert Arenas will be suspended indefinitely. This comes on the heels of the current investigation Arenas is under thanks to gun charges he may be facing.

NBA Comminsoner David Stern was on ESPN's 980 in Washington DC and stated "his ongoing conduct has led me to conclude that he is not currently fit to take the court in an NBA game."

Anyone who is following this situation has to understand the problems the NBA is facing with the Gilbert Arenas situation. He did have guns in the Wizards locker room. Sure they were unloaded, but they were there. And for those who do not know, Washington DC has some of the strictest gun laws in the United States. It is not often I agree with a league suspending a player, but this is one time that I side with the commissioner.

Not helping Gilbert's cause has to be his recent actions on Twitter where he has joked about this incident and about everything else going on in the world. While I do believe player should use social media, Arenas has to understand the magnitude of the situation he is in. And he has to know when it is best to call off the joke dogs. Gilbert Arenas was also seen making a 'gun gesture' during the warm up for last nights game against the Philadelphia 76'ers.

At the very least this is a PR move by David Stern who has worked so hard over the past few seasons to clean up the image of the NBA.
