NFL Hiring Notes

Yes the past weekend was conference championship weekend in the NFL, but while the Eagles, Cardinals, Steelers and Ravens were doing battle on the field several other NFL teams were making moves off the field with hopes that their efforts will land them in next years conference championship games. The St. Louis Rams hired a new head coach on Saturday, and on Sunday night just hours after leaving the field the Jets made the move we all expected and hired a coach to fill their vacancy as well.

The St. Louis Rams turned to Steve Spagnuolo to take over as their next head coach. Spagnuolo has spent the past few seasons work
ing as the defensive coordinator for the New York Giants. Steve Spagnuolo is responsible for coaching the defensive unit that mauled the New England Patriots in last years Super
Bowl. Steve Spagnuolo has been a hot commodity on the coaching block for the past few seasons so it does not come as much of a surprise that he finally inked a deal to be the St. Louis Rams head coach. Sources say he has signed a four year contract that will be worth around 11 million dollars.

The St. Louis Rams were not the only team making deals this past weekend, the New York Jets have ended their search for a new head coach by hiring Rex Ryan. Rex Ryan was the Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator yesterday. However, just an hour after the Ravens were knocked out of the playoffs by the Pittsburgh Steelers, the New York Jets made an official offer. This hiring may have been one of the worst kept secrets in the league as everyone knew Ryan was tabbed for this job it was just a matter of when the Jets would make the offer. Ryan is also due to make 11 million dollars on his new four year contract.
